The best part of my Croatia trip was the Plitvice National Park. Hands down.
I think very few people in this world can say they experienced the Plitvice National Park as we did. On day four of our Croatia trip we woke up very early to drive from Zadar to Plitvice. We arrived around 11AM to the park where the information desk informed us that the whole route would take nearly six hours. Given that this was during COVID times, we didn’t have any problem parking and nearly parked at the entrance. It was surreal to see the park nearly deserted at the entrance. But when we started our walk we realized that there was almost no one in the park. I think during this time lots of people still were unable or afraid to travel so we only came across a handful of other groups during the whole six hours. An incredible experience that probably was once in a lifetime for a sight so popular. I mean, to put it in perspective, over 1.4M people visited this park in 2016. We walked through and saw over 16 lakes and 90 waterfalls, truly a naturist’s dream!
Honestly, I didn’t want to put guide because I have no advice, just come with your stomach full, sneakers on, and sunblock applied. I will say at some points it was a bit slippery due to the running water in some areas so to bring rubber sole shoes.
Ticket prices (as of November 2022) range from 10.50 to 24 euros depending on the time of year as an adult.
Tell me about your national park experience? Was it packed?
