One of my 2021 goals of this year was to learn how to play padel. I only learned about this sport a year ago but it is a popular racket sport played mainly in Spain however it was originally created in Mexico.
You don’t have to be gifted to have a fun time and that’s what I love about it. It’s a great plan while you are stuck confined in Madrid for the weekend before grabbing a few beers with your friends. You can play with a total of four people (yourself included) and on rare occasions you can find a smaller court for two.
So where can you find super cheap padel classes? Federación Madrileña de Pádel in Canal de Isabel II o Puerta de Hierro.
How does it work?
They are trimester long courses that are once per week for one hour. eg. every Thursday at 7PM.
The classes begin typically in September however they open up new classes every trimester to accommodate new students. I myself signed up on the waiting list with limited availability in September 2020 and was able to join in January 2021. You can sign up by yourself or with friends and the federation forms groups of four students.
How much?
The big question! Considering there should be 12 classes a trimester (4 classes*3 months) the total cost is 132 €. That is a whopping 11 euros per class in Madrid center! The best part? If you are under 30 and have the Carné Joven you get an *additional* 20% off for a total of 105.6€ (8.80€ per class!)
