Being a US citizen has it’s pros and cons. (The main con being double taxation but let’s get into that in another blog post.) Currently during COVID times one of the hardest things to understand is whether or not I can enter into another country as a US citizen but with EU residency. For example, I just bought a ticket to Croatia to go on a trip with a few friends however only after did I realize that I personally might not be allowed on the fact that I am a US citizen. I searched and searched and came to the US Embassy site which is said in italic letters.
I was devastated! So plain and simple it left me feeling quite silly to not have looked before. Scrolling down however you can see the highlighted text that says exceptions are made when the EU resident is coming directly from an EU/EEA member state or region.
To be honest it still left me with a little doubt and wanting to cover my back, I sent off three emails to several different US embassies to clarify. Finally this morning I got a response from the US Embassy in Zagreb that indeed “As an EU resident, you may qualify of entry.”
So Croatia! Here I come!
If you yourself have been to Croatia please give me suggestions below on places to go/see and things not to miss out on! What was your experience in Croatia? Comment below!
